Website or just Instagram? What a small business actually needs

Many small businesses run entirely on Instagram, and for some that works for a while. But Instagram and a website do different jobs. Here's what each is good at, so you can decide with your eyes open.

What Instagram does well

  • People discover you while scrolling, even if they weren't looking.
  • Reels and stories show your product and your personality.
  • Followers see your news and offers without searching.

What Instagram can't do

  • Be found on Google. When someone searches "bakery near me" or "dentist in Doha", Google shows websites and Google profiles, not Instagram posts.
  • Let customers browse everything and order without asking you first.
  • Belong to you. Your account depends on rules you don't control; a block, a hack or a change in reach can cut you off overnight.
  • Look established. Many buyers check for a website before trusting a business with a booking or a payment.

What a website adds

A website is the one place that is yours: your products, prices you choose to show, booking or ordering, delivery details and contact, in Arabic and English, at your own address. It's where your Google profile, your ads and your Instagram bio all send people to take the next step.

It also tells you what's working: how many people visited, from where, and which ad or post brought them.

So which do you need?

If you sell only to people who already follow you, Instagram alone can carry you for a while. The moment you want strangers searching Google to find you, want to run ads, or want orders without answering the same questions all day, you need a website — and Instagram becomes the shop window that sends people to it.

It doesn't have to be big

A small business website can be a few pages: what you sell, how to order or book, where you are and how to reach you. What matters is that it's fast on a phone, clear in Arabic, and ends every page with a way to buy.
